The underworld. There are regions in the underworld, which are Tartarus (where the wicked were punished), Elysium (where the children of the gods and heroes went after they died) and the Asphodel Meadows (where everyone else went, the Hufflepuff of the afterlife). The saying "Taking the bull by the horns", comes from Greek mythology. It was one of the 12 labors of Hercules. Hercules. Poseidon was defeated by Athena and she became the guardian of Athens. Hera restored her virginity each yearby bathing in Kanathos. Hades was an Olympian but not counted as one since he lived in the underworld and not on Mount Olympus. Pandora. Zeus: The Olympian god of sky and thunder. He is the son of Cronus and Rhea. Many mythologists believe that Zeus is one of the oldest Greek gods. Poseidon: The god of the sea. He was feared, because he provoked earthquakes and worshipped as the inventor of the horse. Aphrodite: The Olympian goddess of love, beauty, sexual pleasure and fertility. She had affairs with all of the Olympians except Hades and Zeus. Hermes: The winged herald and messenger od the Olympian gods. He was the only Olympian that could cross the border between the living and the dead. Hades: He was the god of the underworld. He was also called the god of wealth or "the rich one" because he possessed the precious metals of the Earth. Hera: She is the queen of the gods. She is known for being the goddess of marriage and birth. She was the wife and sister of Zeus. History.

Greek mythology is the body of myths that were told by the ancient Greeks, people started believing in it from about 3000 to 1100 BCE. Chaos was the first Greek god that came into existence. In the past Greek myths were transmitted orally, but as years went by Hesiod and Homer, Greek poets, wrote about it. The poet Hesiod wrote a Theogony that offered the origin story of Greek mythology. In the Theogony its written the story of the universe journey from nothingness (a void) to being, it also talks about a family tree of elements that descended from Gaia (Earth), Ouranos (Sky), Pontos (Sea) and Tartaros (the underworld).
